CBBC Invited to Dialogue with Vice Premier HU Chunhua

On Tuesday 8th September, Vice Premier HU Chunhua, on behalf of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China invited senior representatives from eight international chambers of commerce and trade associations to exchange views on the development of foreign trade and business in China. The China-Britain Business Council (“CBBC”), was invited by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (“CCPIT”) as the representatives of UK business, trade and industry to join counterpart organisations from the US, Europe and Asia in this high-level dialogue.



Vice Premier HU hosted the meeting and in attendance from the China side were:


  • Mr NING Jizhe - Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission

  • Mr GAO Yu – Deputy Secretary General of the State Council

  • Ms GAO Yan – Chairperson of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade

  • Mr MA Zhaoxu – Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

  • Mr WANG Zhijun – Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology

  • Mr WANG Shouwen – Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative

  • Mr TANG Jun – Vice Minister of the State Administration for Market Regulation

  • Mr ZHANG Shaogang – Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade


All invited international organisations had the opportunity to present their views prior to responses from each Vice Minister.



Mr Tom Simpson, Managing Director, China Operations and Chief China Representative, CBBC, participated in the meeting on behalf of CBBC, our members and the wider UK business community in China.



Through his remarks, Tom emphasised the importance of the bilateral trade relationship and presented the key challenges and opportunities on behalf of CBBC's members. He highlighted key measures to improve the business environment in China, further advancements in the opening up of the market, and hopes to increase the number of international flights between the UK and China to return British nationals. Other points discussed during the dialogue included the 2020 negative list and China's recently announced "Dual Circulation Strategy".
